Located in Northwestern Minnesota, the Otter Tail River serves as one of the major tributaries to the Red River of the North, joining with the Bois de Sioux River to form the headwaters of the Red River at Breckenridge, MN. Waters of the Red River watershed ultimately flow north into Hudson Bay.
The Otter Tail has a diverse and prolific fishery; special regulations have produced trophy sized smallmouth bass, in addition to healthy populations of northern pike, walleye, channel catfish and panfish. Muskellunge and lake sturgeon can also be caught in these waters, though on rare occasion. The Otter Tail serves as a haven for a multitude of non-game fish species, including carp, bigmouth buffalo, several species of redhorse and suckers, freshwater drum, and goldeyes, to name just a few. You truly can never tell what is going to be on the end of your line; adding to the excitement.
Roughfisher Fly Fishing specializes in the pursuit of roughfish on the fly. Guided trips typically take place downstream of Fergus Falls, MN. Enjoy the opportunity to sight fish to tailing carp, nymph to holding buffalo, or fish dry flies to rising goldeyes in the evening. For those anglers seeking a more traditional quarry, smallmouth bass trips are also an option. Guided trips are also available at other locations across Minnesota; A travel surcharge may apply.
Fly tying instruction is available for indivduals or groups. I am also available to speak at your club or group meetings and events. Contact me for more information, booking fees, and rates.
